 Potential Merit Badge Counselors! Minimize

Do you have an area of expertise or interest you want to share? Whether it is a special craft or hobby (basketry, leatherwork, coin collecting), a profession (veterinary medicine, aviation, engineering), or perhaps a life skill (cooking, personal management, communications)—as a merit badge counselor, you can play a vital role in stirring a young man's curiosity about that particular topic.

By serving as a merit badge counselor, you offer your time, knowledge, and other resources so that Scouts can explore a topic of interest.

If you are not yet a merit badge counselor, it is easy to become a volunteer! Here are the steps:

      1. Register with the Boy Scouts of America by completing an Adult Leader Application, indicating the position “Merit Badge Counselor.”
      2. If you have not already completed it you will have to take the Youth Protection Training (on-line or in person) and provide a copy of your trained card.
      3. Complete a Merit Badge Counselor application identifying which Merit Badges you are qualified to teach.
      4. Gather these three things and turn them in at the district Roundtable. You can also email, meritbadgelist@chesapeakedistrict.com for more information (to mail or drop off the applications.)
